Classic Homemade Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce

📝 Ingredients

  • 400 g (14 oz) spaghetti
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 800 g (28 oz) canned crushed tomatoes
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

👩‍🍳 How to Prepare

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent.
  4. Add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds, being careful not to burn.
  5. Pour in the crushed tomatoes. Stir well.
  6. Season with salt, black pepper, and sugar if the sauce is too acidic.
  7. Let the sauce simmer on low heat for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Add fresh basil leaves at the end.
  9. Serve the sauce over the spaghetti and finish with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
